Day Sixteen

Another slow day on Galveston Island. Zoobley has been itching to get at the many crabs that taunt her from the dunes, so I finally gave in today and let her have a go. After a few failed attempts, she caught on to the fact that their burrows have multiple entrances, so while digging furiously she kept an eye out for escapees. I have to give her a lot of credit. For fourteen pounds, she can really move a lot of sand in a short amount of time. You have to be careful where you stand because she can sling sand up to ten feet with her stubby little paws.

We noticed another quirk of the RV phenomenon today. Since the monsters are so big and take so long to set up, their owners are pretty much stuck if they want to go out to dinner or buy groceries. To alleviate this problem, they all tow SUVs behind making a tractor trailer length vehicle even longer. Honda CRVs and Jeeps seem to be the most popular but I have seen a couple of Luxus'. It's also really interesting that many of the old folks use their SUVs to travel the hundred yards to and from the bathhouse. We have also noticed that despite the forty or fifty RVs in the campground, we rarely see more than five or six people on the beach. Zoobley and I have tried to make friends with some of these folks with the objective of getting a tour of one of the moving McMansions, but they are a standoffish bunch. I guess if you're under sixty years and fifty feet, you're just not part of the in crowd.
