Day Nine

It was balmy and humid when Kudzu and I went to sleep last night but when we were awakened at 5:30 by the sound of the beach sweeper, it was a breezy 53 degrees. What a shock! Now, we brought everything we needed in the way of clothing to spend the winter in either Florida or Alaska, but at 5:30 I wasn't exactly sure where to look for something warm. I got some strange looks at the Starfish when I showed up for breakfast wearing brown pants, an orange shirt, green sweater, a purple and gold LSU hat I had purchased at Wal-Mart for $5.00 the day before because I had forgotten a hat, and sandals. Fortunately, by midday it had warmed up and I was back to swim trunks and SPF 15.
Zoobley informed me after breakfast that she had always wanted to see what an offshore oil rig was all about so we headed over to the ExxonMobil heliport from the Starfish to see if we could talk somebody into a ride. A helpful young pilot met us outside the office and explained that while tours were once permitted, safety concerns and litigation had put an end to them several years ago. So, thanks to corporate risk management, tort lawyers, and Osama bin Laden, Kudzu and I didn't get to take a helicopter ride today. It's funny that I was able to drive through the gates and well onto the refinery grounds without anybody stopping me. A couple of guys even waved.
We have company tonight. A honeymooning couple are camped a few sites down with a really big bonfire going. Trying to outdo the oil rigs I guess. More thumbnails ...
