Zoobley and I awoke to a really big storm this morning, so after a very quick necessary walk for her we got off the beach and headed to the Starfish Restaurant for breakfast and all the local gossip. The French and the Cajun accents made for slow ordering at first but we finally got our coffee and bacon and eggs without incident. Starting our second week on the road, we had created a lengthy list of all the items forgotten in our hurried packing (soap, pens, dog treats, etc.) so after breakfast we headed back up the road to the Wal-Mart in Galliano to stock up and wait out the storm.
The storm gave way in the early afternoon leaving temperatures in the mid-70s and giving me and the Zoobs just enough time for a long walk on the beach before the sun set at 5:30. Grand Isle is a pretty place except for the overwhelming presence of ExxonMobil and Halliburton. From our campsite, we can see no less than twenty offshore oil rigs lit up like giant Christmas trees on the liquid horizon. These along with the gas flares from the refinery onshore eliminate any need for a nightlite.
