August 14th - We had lunch at Johnny's Mexican Restaurant (on the Avenue),where Dex had been a steady patron about 40 years ago. The food was as good now as it was back then! We shopped Trader Joe’s for some wine and then drove down Canada Largo Rd. in search of the walnut orchards. It was a great ride in the ranch country part of California. Next stop was Oakview, where Dex’s flower shop, Angela's Flowers used to be located. We also explored in and around Ojai, where Dex once lived.
August 15th – Dex and I went biking along the coast (Pierpont) all the way to Ventura marina and back
August 16th – We left Ventura and headed closer to Van Nuys where our generator was hospitalized. Malibu was as good a place to hang our as any, so back we came.
August 17th – Took a long walk on Malibu beach and looked for the house that Dex lived in when he was young. The address, 24818 Old Malibu Rd. wasn't easy to find from the beach as renovations and upgrades really changed the neighborhood.
August 18th – (Sunday) – Third Sunday night in a row that we spent with family. Dori, Nubi & Skye came in the late afternoon to our campground for a cookout. We grilled Brats with sauerkraut.
August 19th – Still in Malibu. We intended to leave today with or without a working generator but then Generac said they’d next day the replacement for the defective part initially sent. OK, one more day. We went to a movie and then met Dori & Nubi at the Las Paz restaurant for dinner. Getting to spend more time with family was the only good side effect for the delayed repair and our travels.
August 20th – Left Malibu with the RV & car in tow and headed to Van Nuys. We left the RV at the generator repair shop. Dori & Nubi took us out to lunch at The Sixth. We got back to the RV around 4 PM. Dex and the repairman worked on installing the the generator until after 8PM. We arrived back to the campground in Ventura around 9:45 PM, tired, hungry and our bank account much lighter. At least we can get back on the road again now!
