The internet is opening up new ways of working in China, especially for those in more remote areas:

Internet recruitment: a new way for job seekers

By Chen Jing

Bian Xiaoheng, a senior of Yunnan University went back to Lijiang, her hometown, and now has become a famous "travel planner" on some renowned tour forums. Based on her familiarity with the tour resources of her hometown, she can help backpackers design "best travel route", which even includes what dishes they should eat for each dinner. Bian Xiaoheng can be paid at RMB20 to 50 yuan for each travel plan and now she can earn over RMB2000 yuan per month.

The prosperity of Internet creates many new job roles and offers a number of effective information for the sufficient employment. Same as Bian Xiaoheng, many college graduates who know of internet and are familiar with network operation are getting their first jobs in life by the aid of mice and keyboards. The famous internet expert Liang Chunxiao said, "The internet has now become a good opportunity for college graduates to enter a knowledge-intensive industry."

With a high starting point to exert the new advantage

From 2003 to 2008, the internet recruitment market expanded from RMB310 million yuan to RMB1.1 billion yuan; the internet education market has grown to RMB20.2 billion yuan; internet travel services have grown to RMB1.54 billion yuan; the Chinese e-business transaction amount has breached RMB2 trillion yuan, taking up 6.7 percent of the Chinese GDP volume in 2008... These figures all testify the internet economy implies plenty of opportunity to start a business or get a job.

On the other hand, a survey of the market research institute iResearch showed that presently, the main channel of college students to get information is the internet, surpassing TV, newspaper and other channels. Zhang Mingye, a teacher of Hebei College of Finance, stated that the strong points of college students are rich knowledge reserve, comparatively high skill and quality, ability to accept new things, practical virtue and honest mentality of "starting point", and their shortages are lack of work and social experience as well as the accumulation of social resources.

Therefore, college students can quickly apply various internet tools including e-business, can conduct patient exploration and continuous experience on the negotiation skill and transaction method of e-transaction, and the mentality of "starting point" makes them search online business opportunities with more concentration. All this makes college students more suitable for internet business initiation. According to a survey from Taobao.com, the survival rate of business-initiation and employment of college students via e-business is higher than the average level by 8 percent. The internet has become a new starting point for college students to maximize their advantages and minimize their disadvantages.
