Moves are underway to improve the transport connections in SE Asia, with calls for a southwest corridor of the Eurasian land-bridge, from Kunming in Yunnan to Kyaukpyu on the coast of Burma/Myanmar.
Using existing rail networks - but adding new ones and changing to the same gauge - could see a new route from Shenzhen - close to Hong Kong - all the way through Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Turkey to Rotterdam in the Netherlands - a 15,000 km line through 21 countries, cutting the journey between Shenzhen and Rotterdam by 3,000km
