As you may or not know, we are running out of oil on this planet.
Yes, that's right. It's about time we found another planet or two for all us.

In the meantime, we've got to put up higher gas prices at the pump. China increased its prices 16-18% last month. Gas in the US is now more expensive than milk. The same in NZ and Australia, where drought and increased transport costs have pushed up milk and cheese prices - and now consumers are wondering: would it be cheaper to fill up with milk? or petrol?

Now unless you've been living with your head in the sand these last 10 years, you'll realise that there is a finite amount of oil under the ground. And it is getting more difficult to locate and extract. We need it for plastic bags and all number of consumer products, as well as to drive them.

So you would think that when China Daily did a survey of readers online, asking who is to blame for the surging oil prices, you would think things like the limited supply or the rising demand would be the main causes of the recent escalating oil prices?

Not so. According to the poll, the rise in oil prices to over US$145 a barrel is due to speculators. That's right. Those Arabs are controlling the price of oil.

Yes, conspiracy theories are everywhere in China. There's probably a rumour out there that Americans caused the China earthquake by all jumping together at the same time - possibly during the NBA Finals.

YOu see, China doesn't want to take the blame for rising food and fuel prices, even though it's growing demand is having a global impact. Or if they half-admit it, they do so with the right to grow - afterall, the West had 2 centuries of industrial development- China is compressing that into a double of decades.

Already China is emitting more greenhouse gases than the US (and this ain't a good thing).
