I haven't been this excited about rain for a long, long time. For the last three days, it has been cloudy and overcast. I've up for darkening clouds. I've looked out across the valley for signs that the cloak had thickened and released streams of rain. But alas, nothing. Until today.
Today, I woke to find it overcast and dull. Nothing was moving. Whereas on previous days, it had either burnt off or blown away, today's clouds stayed, closed in and eventually, rained.
About this time last year, just around the time of the May national holidays, it rained non-stop for 10 days. I thought it was the start of the rainy season, which usually runs from June to September. But just as suddenly as it had started, it stopped. And for the rest of the year, we never had anything like it. Just a few showers, a couple of thunderstorms and the usual afternoon rain for 5 minutes. But when it did start to rain in May, it seemed like the world became a worse place. It was cold, depressing. No one went out. Or if they ventured out, it was with umbrellas and gumboots, dodging streams from gutters, stepping around puddles, carefully minding the way on slippery stones.
But today's rain looks more like a brief show.
Now why would I be so excited about it raining? (See my next entry)
