Word is that it will be easier to get a visa for China from HK or your home country - already they have relaxed the requirement for air tickets and hotel bookings.

And currently most people can get via an agency or direct from the consulate a one month tourist visa, or a double entry visa, which can be extended twice. With the double entry you go out of China - to HK, Vietnam, Laos, etc - and can head in again for another month, which is then able to be renewed twice. Giving up to six months in total.
