I left Colorado Springs today, heading east bound on I-70 to Topeka, Kansas. On my way out I took route 24 right by the Springs airport... Then I saw this huge wing of a plane literally jetting out from the side of a building so I detoured over to check it out. Turns out that there is a whole plane adjacent to a building, this is actually a restaurant named Solos.
How many of you airplane buffs would love this place. The hostesses and waiters are dressed as captains and first officers. There is a terminal lounge and bar or you can eat inside the fuselage of a KC- 97. I decided to have some lunch and work on my blog. Good food and great service. The best part is you are eating in airforce plane. Check it out for yourself at http://www.coloradoeats.com/Solos/index.html
I left there about 1300 mountain time. For the next several hours, there is absolutely nothing but long roads flat lands.... Cows and plenty of farms. Once I hit Kansas... yeah more of the same thing. There were some rather interesting billboards on the side of the road... such as ABORTION KILLS, JESUS SAVES, and the ever-popular JESUS IS REAL. My favorite was a billboard stating a farm had a six-legged cow. See now that is an eye catcher. So I stopped in a place called Russell, Kansas. I wanted to see this cow.
A small little building provided for the anteroom, and gift shop. There was a glass case filled with 40 rattlesnakes... I only saw two of them actually move. Out back was a large open area filled with prairie dogs as well as there little boroughs which they scamper into once you get near them. Chickens, roosters, turkeys, pigeons... were running amok. In several fenced areas, they had two different types of foxes. They also had some beautiful coyotes. Let us see what else was there... oh yea pigs, an ass, buffalo, and yes a six-legged cow.
Poor thing had two hind legs growing out of his okole (much like it was giving birth). but no these legs were permanent. This of course deviated another orifice that naturally occurs in that area. He was not alone though... his companion had five legs. This one was like a dorsal fin, just a limp leg hanging behind his head.
So this farm also boasted that it had the largest prairie dog in the world..., which turned out to be some made concoction. Notice the easter egg if you will....
I strolled through the gift shop checking out some rattlesnake pieces (everything from slap bracelets to key chains of the with the rattle).
On the road again..... 45 minutes outside of Topeka I got a glimpse of Mother Natures firework display.
I only saw lightening on the islands 1 or 2 times while I lived there. What I saw in Kansas, was phenomenal. Imagine 4th of July watching the fireworks from town and pearl city, from a place on the westside. OK multiply that by 5 and subtract the smoke....
I finally checked into my hotel about 10:15 central time. As I was watching the news, I caught a little blib on a tornado that hit last night less than 30 miles east of here in a town called Manhattan destroyed several homes.....I just drove through Manhattan on my way here.... That is pretty nuts....
