i expected to find many unexpected things on my first visit to a Muslum country. After being here several days and reflecting on those differences, i would have to say that the most prominant difference is the ''Call to Prayer.'' Five times a day, every day of the week, every mosque in the country belts a roughly two minute ''Call to Prayer'' from the megaphones atop the spires (called ''Mınarets'') of the mosque.
My understanding from the locals ıs that these calls are someone at the mosque reading verse from the Koran. The fırst call comes at fırst lıght (which is currently 4:10 AM!!). The second late morning, the third in the afternoon, the fourth at Sunset, and the fifth and final at around 10:00pm. (seems to very and be two hours after the Sunset call, but i have not confirmed that.)
Because this is such a unique and hard to describe event, i have attached a short video clip ı took outsıde a mosque. There is nothıng to see ın the vıdeo, but the audıo captures the sound of a typical Call to Prayer. Mind the volume on this if you are at work, otherwise your co-workers may start to wonder about you...
