(Jana) We awoke to hear the sad news that Debbie Wheeler had passed away.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Wheeler family back in Orrington.  It goes to show that life isn't always fair and we have to take advantage of the time we have together.

We didn’t get started until about 10:30 this morning.  Nice big breakfast, all four of us had showers, dishes done, all electronics and cameras charged up, then ready to see the rest of Yellowstone and head to Grand Teton in the afternoon.

On the way to see Old Faithful, we stopped at a geyser basin that was pretty active.  The water in the basin was boiling three feet high but it was hard to see due to all the steam.  The colors in the basin were gorgeous.  I learned that we were actually in the crater of a volcano that makes up Yellowstone.  The crater is 30-miles in diameter and could erupt again someday.  This is why the geysers and hot springs are there.  We arrived at the Old Faithful geyser in time to see it erupt.  That was pretty cool.  It goes off about every 60-90 minutes.

We made lunch in the RV and headed to Grand Teton NP which is just south of Yellowstone.  The Teton mountain range is made up of rugged peaks still covered in snow and the Grand Teton is at 13,770 elevation.  We found a small lake where folks swim at the foot of the mountains.  We set up the video camera on the tripod, all held hands and ran into the lake.  Well, actually we dragged Tom as his heels were dug in trying to hold back.  Boy, was it cold but fun.  It’s basically the run-off of the snow and rain on the mountains.

We then headed to the section of the park where the buffalo roam and the deer and antelope play.  We saw the antelope playing but no buffalo.  We ate supper in the RV at a turnout, watching for buffalo but no luck.

We left Grand Teton at about 8:30 and headed east.  Kevin drove until about 11:00pm and we stopped at a rest stop somewhere in Wyoming.  Great day overall.

389.2 miles, avg. speed 37.6 mph, travel time 7:01, stopped time 5:24, total miles for trip 5,793
