Had a good sleep last night. Jessica was up first. I dragged myself out of bed, which was hard as the time-zone was 2 hours ahead of Australia. Mary gave us a lift into the centre of Christchurch.
We went to the information centre and got loads of brochures and then went to Starbucks to discuss our route. We hired a car - a 10yr old Mazda Dario. Then we went for some food to a fantastic italian restaurant called stromboli - yum!! Went on the tourist tram around the city centre - the city had an incredibly English feel to it!
We picked up the car and drove back to Mary's to get all the hostels booked for the trip. Once that was done, Mary and Mark (Mary's husband) took us up onto the volcanic mountains between the city and the ocean, to look across the Canterbury Plains and the bay.
We stopped off at the supermarket on the way back to buy food for the journey.
Went back to Mary's and we all had a mince pie before going to bed!
Where I stayed:
Mary's house
