After our day off at Andrew Molera State park, we started the day out with a ride into the "town" of Big Sur. The grocceries were ridiculously expensive, but we finally sent Brian's panniers back and energized with some breakfast burritos while we were there. I don't even know if you could call them grocceries. We got some canned corn and refried beans, chips, and hamburger buns and called it a day. Even that combination took some serious creativity.
I think Brian and I were both expecting the ride to be more challenging than it ended up being. There were plenty of hills, but nothing we hadn't seen before and the cliffs were steep but there was plenty of room or a guard rail so i never really felt to scared while riding along them. All the talk we had heard before hand is what made me nervous. The worst thing was the drivers of all the fancy convertable cars who weren't paying attention: they're the ones that they really need to worry about falling off the cliffs.
We rode past a forest fire on our way to camp, and hoped that our campground would be open because of it. As we rode, we could look back and see the fire creeping closer to the road, and by that night when we checked it out it looked as if the fire had moved down from the ridge to the road.
The beach across the street from camp gave us something to do before dinner...more like finding it gave us something to do, and it was quite a climb down. Our book told us that you can find jade on the beach so we tried - we found green stones, but neither brian or i know what jade really looks like so at least we have cool looking rocks if nothing else.
