Day 32 - October 18
**editor's note: as boring as our day yesterday sounded in the blog, it did manage to get a little more interesting. The first roomate we met at the hostel told us that he'd been told that he snored and that brian better get some earplugs. He wasn't very friendly, but he sure liked to talk...if you can imagine that. Brian and 2 of the other guys in his room ended up sleeping on the couch. That's why it's good to be in the female room! We checked out the beach and saw tons of hermit crabs and more seals(i love seals!!) We watched the sunset and Brian saw a whale jump out of the water!! I was so jealous!!!
We left the hostel this morning and started out for our day. Brian spotted some dolphins jumping around in the waves on one of the beaches and we watched them for a while. We took a break about 10 miles outside Santa Cruz and got invited to a party on the beach. The girl told us that it was going to be "raging" and there would be "music and craziness"...too bad brian and i aren't into the craziness of California. We rode past alot of fruit and vegetable fields today and stopped at the Farmer's market as soon as we got into Santa Cruz. We had lunch and sampled all the fruits we had never even heard of before.
Our ride through Santa Cruz just kept going and going. I'm pretty sure the most dangerous part was just getting through the safeway parking lot with all the crazies getting their Saturday grocceries...that or the time Brian led me down a one way street bike lane - the wrong way(and everyone thinks i'm the one without any common sense!) We rode to the boardwalk and there was some kind of marching band competition going on. There were too many people to just leave our bikes somewhere so we kept riding. We just saw online last night that there is a surf competion starting this weekend and into the week...wouldn't you know we're missing it. it seems we've missed all the festivals by a day before or a day after on our ride. I think we might hit some this week and next weekend at least i hope.
This is the first campground that we've stayed at that's full for the weekend. There are kids running around all over the place again. We don't understand, but all of a sudden at this state park we weren't aloud to check in until 4 and you have to check out of the hiker/biker sight by 9 and they are charging us $5/person instead of 3.
We made dinner and are in our tent ready for bed at 7. Brian's going to talk me into playing some cards.
peace love bicycles
