We arrived in Bayfield and Lake Superior was just as BEAUTIFUL as I left her(and just as big). I was so happy to be back and so excited about kayaking the next day! We headed into town and got dinner at the tiny groccery store and then back to our campsite to make dinner. We had camp set up by 4 and went to bed early which was nice after the driving.
It was up early to get the tent down and head over to Living Adventure to start our day of SEA KAYAKING!! We got our wet suits on and all set before leaving with the rest of our group and our guides. Brian and I were once again the young ones out amoung the grandparents and married couples in our group. We sat in the very back of the van and just took it all in, listening to all the different conversations going on which is usually what we do best! The weather decided not to cooperate with us and when we arrived at the beach where we would have put in to go to the sea caves on Devil's Island, we found that the wind and waves were a little too crazy for our likings. The guide explained that rebound waves can get pretty wild out in the caves and that we would have got tossed all over the place out there. I was bummed that we weren't going to the caves, mostly because i wanted Brian to see them for himself because you can't understand how awesome they really are until you get out there, but i was also kind of relieved at the decision, just because i wanted brian's first time on lake superior to be a good one. Even the day that I went out with my campers was kind of choppy and some of the girls even got sea sick...so yeah good choice not to go out.
Our alternate route started in a calm lagoon which had plenty of plant life which Brian enjoyed. The lagoon turned into a small river, which then came out at the BEAUTIFUL Lake Superior! The wind was causing some waves and Brian wasn't too much of a fan, but i was enjoying every minute of it! Even without going to the sea caves, we saw some pretty sweet cliffs and even some bald eagles. One of the guides was more our age and talking to him passed quite a bit of the time. We crossed back to the beach after doing some exploring and had lunch while resting(very very good, and being the bums we are, brian and i made sure to get our money's worth out of the lunch!)
We portaged the kayaks back to the lagoon(only about 20 ft) and then finished up and headed back to Living adventure where we finished up and left right away to get to Marquette!
