Well i've arrived. After getting the bus to the hostel i upgraded to a private room for a few days. The idea of staying with 23 other people didn't really appeal.

The flight sucked, i had 11 hours from Heathrow to LA and then 12 and a quarter hours to Auckland and i felt ill the whole way.

The ACB hostel is on Queen Street and is really big and the people are friendly but everyone staying here is so much older than me.

Yesterday i just wandered round a bit really with the useless map that the hostel gave me. At first i just went to a supermarket to get some food and to buy a phonecard...which didn't work.

In the afternoon i met Andy, he picked me up from the Sky Tower and took me for a coffee before dropping me back off at Queen Street. After that i just walked around the harbour for a while and stopped off at a little shopping centre on the way back. I'm meant to be meeting him again either today or tomorrow.

After getting back to the hostel i went to try and sort my bank account out but the job search centre was closed even though it's meant to be open Monday - Friday 9-5. Also i haven't got half the stuff from Real Gap that i'm meant to have.

At the end of the day i took a walk to the Sky Tower to see it lit up but it wasn't dark enough when i went so i just went back to the hostel and showered and i'm not exaggerating when i say the shower stays on for about 5 seconds before it switches itself off.

I finally went to bed at 7.30 before getting up at 4 this morning...damn jetlag.

Random things about here so far...

It's really cold and windy.
Traffic lights take forever to change and then they barely give you time to cross the road.
Traffic here is crazy and goes in all directions.
There are more roadworks down Queen Street than Basingstoke and Reading put together.
Their shops look very British and there are Starbucks, McDonalds and Burger King everywhere. Foodtown could easily have been Sainsburys.
Cookie bear chocolate chippies must have been designed to break your teeth.
Roads here are really steep.
The woman at the airport thought i was a kid damn it.

No pictures yet because i don't know how to put them on here and i don't have time to figure it out before my free minutes run out.

Sorry about all the late night phone calls mum and dad.

Miss you all.

Heylo
Hey sweetie, that flight sounds traumatic! Give everything a week or so and you'll settle in, although to be fair, sounds like you've had a rough start. Have you had a chance to look at the countryside yet or are you just stuck in the city? Anyway, thinking of you hon, we're all here if you need us. xxx

hey hannah!

me and matt are here. its really good to hear from you...we've been worrying! Sorry about the flights being so awful but glad you've arrived safely and are in touch with andy. understand on the room front, i would have done the same! Matt is making some witty comment about how sharing a room with me is similar to 26 (dont you just miss him?). nothing exciting going on in England so dont rush back! matt is uber excited about florida and we're having a bit of a holiday planning sesh tommorrow. really hope things start to improve for you, we're sure they will! have fun and try and pet a sheep(matt). keep us updated on your adventures in never never land (matt). speak to you again soon! thinking of you x matt and meridy x

ps remember it could be worse - you could have a gammy knee, be afraid of flying (and pirates [Meridy]) and generally be an emotional wreck - ala Meridy
