Last week on Wednesday 12th November i won two gold tickets to L5 in Blackpool from gaydargirls, it's a convention for the TV show; The L Word. The tickets were worth 90 each so i was really lucky. However, it gave us limited time to book our accommodation and a lot of places were fully booked. I rang Katie at uni to see if she could come which thankfully she could and then after emailing round a few hotels i booked us into a bed and breakfast in the heart of the gay scene called Mchalls. We had two single rooms for 20 a night each which was good. We had a shared bathroom but that was no problem. The hotel was run by two guys, a couple, who were like "look at these two aren't they cute". How embarassing!

So the first day, Friday 14th, was a bit stressful, we couldn't leave until the tickets arrived but we knew we had to be there in time to register. Thankfully the postman came early for once but the journey took 6 and a half hours with no breaks due to accidents and roadworks on the motorway. We feel like we know the M6 very well now. Having checked in we took the tram to the venue; The Norbreck Castle Hotel. We had no idea where we were going but some guy took pity on us and showed us where to get off the tram and where to register once we got there. Most people there were really nice and helpful, you don't get that here.

We made it on time to register and the first thing we did was attend the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was short and sweet and afterwards we went to the meet and greet for gold ticket holders. We had one of the smaller tables, a table of eight, which consisted of me, Katie, two couples, and Australian and one other younger girl. We all got on really well and had a good laugh thinking up questions for the cast.

The first to our table was Laurel Holloman who plays Tina Kennard, she was so lovely and chatted about adopting her daughter etc, she looked so different in person. Then we had Janina Gavankar who plays Papi and she had her mum with her who became a bit of a star in her own right over the weekend. Janina was so bubbly, we played Spin the Bottle with her albeit a very different version. She had to spin the bottle and ask us a question, however, there was still a bit of beer in the bottle which went everywhere. After quite a wait we finally got Rachel Shelley who plays Helena Peabody, my favourite. The people on our table rearranged the chairs so that Rachel sat next to me and i was so nervous. Then to make matters worse Katie told Rachel that i love her accent. Admittedly it's true bit i was so embarassed and i went bright red, everyone on our table laughed at me. Rachel was cool  though and even sang the theme tune for us which was funny.

Eventually at gone midnight Jennifer Beals who plays Bette Porter came to our table. She's so different to her character, very quiet and shy but so lovely. She told us about the pranks they play on set etc. She also played our spin the bottle game as did Rachel. When Jennifer was with us it was getting late because she'd spent so much time at each table and we also got interuppted by a drunk girl. Jennifer's minder was trying to get her to move on but she was like "no because of what's happened i think i should spend longer here" which we were really grateful for. We got out of the meet and greet at 1am so who knows when it finished because Jennifer still had two tables to go to after ours.

Day 1 highlights and memorable moments
"I could never marry a boy because that's illegal" - comment from the daughter of one of our group.

"That's really funny i can't wait to tell that story" - Jennifer's response to the comment above.

Jennifer telling us about her telling Kate all the answers to the L Word game on the DVD extras.

Jennifer telling us about Laurel and Mia pretending to adopt a baby to wind up Ilene Chaiken.

"I love your shirt i would totally wear that" - comment from Janina to me.

Trying to make "uh huh her" sound as good in a British accent as in an American one with our group.

"There's the toll! Oh!" - comment from me and Katie on the drive up with regards to the mystery toll road.

Jennifer giving a tissue to the lady on our table that cried.

Day 2 and 3 coming soon....
