on the outskirts of london, thaxted

On monday morning, the 10th, bright and early we flew from the Shannon Ireland airport to the lovely Ryanair airport, Stanstead, outside of London. Upon arrival, we had already braced ourselves for a 24 hour stay in the airport, awaiting our flight into Istanbul. We did though have our fingers crossed; we were hoping to hear from one of John's C.U. friends, Michael, who lives outside of London. Luckily around 10 am- we had already been in the airport for over two hours- we made contact with Michael, a.k.a. the brit, and he promptly came to save us. I don't know what we had expected, anything would have been better than 24 hours in an airport, but we ended up spending an incredibly peaceful day in a small British town.
As it turns out, Michael lives on a farm. Not a small farm, a quite large farm, of 1500 acres, which was unbelievably picturesque. There were fruit trees all around, small lakes, and plenty of grass to sleep on. After we had napped for a bit, we headed into Thaxted, the small town, visited the cathedral, visited the mill, and had a pint. What more could we have asked for?
By the time Michael returned us to the airport we had been well fed, rested, and had enjoyed probably the nicest British day that one could imagine. Really, the skies were blue all day. Now we're off from peaceful pastoral life to Istanbul, which as far as we know is as packed as a sardine can. Take care.
p.s. we do have more pictures to put up, we're just waiting to find a computer with a usb
