Most importantly, thanks to all our friends and family who have been so so spportive of us leaving the country for this wild adventure. This would not be possible without the encouragement and excitement from you all. Of course, the financial support is instrumental as well :)

Of course also a big thanks to everyone who has allowed us to crash on their couches.

Today we leave from JFK for Dublin to rendevous with some of John's Irish friends.

A quick snapshot of our brief time on the East Coast.
Kristina:
I figured that the best place to start my departure from the united states couldn't be better than our nation's capital, D.C. ;not to mention that one of my best vanderbilt friends, Ashley, would have never let me leave the country without having seen her. Since Ashley just began with the fall semester of teach for america, for three days I got to witness the tumultuous life of a young teacher teaching in an urban public school. Let's just say that Anacostia high shcool, one of the two lowest raking high schools in DC, resembles absolutely nothing to the high school that I attended. To make matters worse, hurricane Ernesto made his presence known at Anacostia by ensuring a steady stream of blackouts. All that I can conclude from my brief time following Ashley
around is that she and the other Teach for America participants are what I consider to be the greatest source of hope for america's underpriviledged students. It's an unbelievably hard job, but also unbelievably worthwhile.

From DC, I made my way to by bus to New York and spent my last night in the United States in a swank manhattan restaurant with Lauren Kopple and John. Honestly trendy New York restaurants are probably as foreign to me as the city Siem Reap in Cambodia is.

John:
Arriving in Philadelphia I promptly almost lost my bag. That would have been a hell of a way to start this trip. The highlights of my short philadelphia visit were eating cheese steaks at pats and ginos with Colin, pretending to be Rocky by running the art museum steps, and seeing independance hall. I was sadly winded at the top of those steps, not being in the shape I used to be. Owww yeeea, yous know. That eehh Rocky, he was a stalion eehhh. This was all followed up by a night of partying on the Jersey shore with some of Colins freinds from Lehigh. It really was like a time warp back to my heydey sophmore year of college. We had a blast though, as did the remnants of hurricane ernesto blast the northeast.

Just a quick tip. If you do loose the link to this travel blog you can type "Kristina" into the search field on the travelpod main page. We are about the 10th one down, you will see our picture. Alternatively, just shoot either of us an emial.

Ok, we are off. Next time you hear from us it will be from foreign lands!

I'm glad you're getting to see some of your Scotland buddies again; what an auspicious start to the trip everyone always talks about, but never does. Drink a pint of real Guinness for me ...and a pint of Smithwicks, if you happen upon that. :)
