We left Dubrovnik and drove towards the border, Astro and Suse had left earlier than us, and gave us a phone call to tell us to expect some issues at the border with insurance. After our earlier Bosnia experience we thought that all the country's we had to buy insurance for would be that easy. Unfortunately Montenegro don't seem to like vans, and tried to charge Astro 138 euros for insurance. He managed to drop the guy some 'tea money' and paid only 15 euros for his, but needless to say we were quite nervous about going through. When we actually got to the border there was an English guy there with his son who had just had to pay the full 138, which he was spewing about. Digger and Paula and I headed upstairs to buy it, and when Paula asked how much the guy said 15 euros (the amount for a car), so we all held our breath until he had filled in the forms and given them back to us. He did have a good look out the window to see what we were driving, but must have been feeling generous. We got talking to the English guy and he was a little worried about travelling through Montenegro and Albania on his own, so we invited him to stay with us for a while.

We headed to Kotor, a walled fortress town on the edge of Southern Europe's deepest fjord. The walls went right up the hill to the fortress, and at the bottom of the hill was an awesome little town with lots of old Serbian orthodox churches. We did our food shopping at a market rather than a supermarket and headed towards the border with Albania!

There was a definite degradation in the road quality on the way to the border, a sign of things to come!
