Right as I was going to go to bed last night, Jen came out and said she was bored. Like an idiot, I suggested we play spoons. An hour and a half later, we were all a little reluctant to stop! It was good fun...except Fonsi and Lito were sneaky when they won-which between the two they did quite often.
This morning I was up early to shower before class. I met Shraddha outside around 8:30 and we hiked to class. When I say hike, I mean it. Takes forever to get to that side of campus! The room was freezing again, and as usual, class was boring. Such a shame...it has so much potential, but he refuses to actually talk about the animals. It's more of an ESS class than a zoology class, which all of us in it are bitter about. In a class called Australian Fauna I do expect to be learning about, I don't know, maybe the fauna? He's taking the conservation/ecology route without really discussing any animals-for example it's week 5 and only once have we discussed any intricacies of a species. Needless to say, I was glad to get out of class this morning.
Since I was on the same side of campus as the international office, I stopped in to ask about airport transport. The lady made a few phone calls and set me up with a shuttle that will pick me up at my door at 4:30 AM and deliver me to the airport for $30- cheaper than a cab. Psyched, I walked over to the library, where I started looking at tickets for the games. Yesterday when I looked most of the events were still available, but today most were sold out. I called Paul to see what he wanted to see (whatever).
Getting hungry, I walked home and made a sandwich (whic I anticipate eating a lot of this weekend). Then I got my stuff together to go to Newcastle proper to hit up the taxation office and salvo's. The tax file number was easy, they just needed to see all my papers, then he gave me a receipt and sent me along my merry way. I walked (more of a hike again) a few (bunches) blocks to the salvo's, where I spent at least an hour looking for something new. I was looking for some t-shirt type garments that are classier than my polos. I also looked at skirts, long sleeve shirts, any pants that jumped out at me, and even a dress. The dress was actually pretty sweet, and for $7 it probably would have been too bad, but it was too big in the top, and I'm without a sewing machine for a while, so I figured I could just as easily tell Mom what's up. I would up getting a brown tank top and two shirts I can put over it (the polyester see-through kind). Satisfied, I headed out right as Paul called. We talked about sports and over the traffic noise picked out three events to hit up: squash on Saturday, hockey on Monday, and athletics (track) on Tuesday. I don't even really know what squash is, but the tickets were like $15 bucks, so I figured I could splurge. Sweetness! I think our grand total is $95 or something around there.
I took the bus home again, and promptly left for the Jesmond shops to find fabric softener (since we don't have a drier). The problem is, all but two of the fabric softeners in Australia are flowery (ie makes me sneeze after one whif). I got a liter bottle of not-so-flowery stuff from Go-Lo for $1.50. I walked home and started dinner: hamburgers with garlic on them. Quite tasty, and I realized I have a day to drink 1 liter of milk too, so I had a glass. Another culinary succes from Cory's mastermind. Tomorrow I'm planning spaghetti and toast (probably with garlic butter on everything).
The rest of tonight goes as so: work diligently on the finalization of the NIH scholarship answers for an hour, walk up to uni with Jen and Fonsi for Jen's netball game, and writing the first draft of my source analysis for history of sport. Oh what fun!
