Went snorkeling today. Of all the snorkel trips there are available here, we were on a trip with BOTH families that we shared helicopter rides with the day before! What are the odds?
We were supposed to go the the crescent shaped volcanic crater island called Molokini but once we got on the boat they informed us that it was too windy there so they took us to an "alternate location". We saw a few fish and corals there but nothing spectacular. I guess if it was spectacular it wouldn't have been an alternate.
After the first snorkel we were supposed to go to another bay with turtles so we headed off. I noticed we seemed to be going in a circle, and after about an hour of driving the boat around, the captain parked us about 50 yards from the spot of the first dive
When they called everyone back in they said one of their other boats had spotted whales in the area so we headed towards them. We were able to see two humpback whales surfacing for air several times. It was the best part of the day.
We came back to our hotel, cleaned up and went out to dinner at a restaurant that overlooked a luau. We had seenn parts of the show from our hotel room but now we had a better view of the dancers.
This is our last night in Maui. Tomorrow morning we head to the Big Island....

! I was pissed - he thought he could fool us by driving around for an hour before returning to the same spot.. We didn't get to go to any of the sites we signed up for. We didn't even bother getting in the water the second time. When they called everyone back in they said one of their other boats had spotted whales in the area so we headed towards them. Nice 'dudes' pic. Enjoy all the pics. I hope Chickie is telling MJ about everything she sees 'cause he is viewing it all through the lens. hehe Have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow. We'll eat your portions of shrimp, turkey, pecan pie, etc.
Snorkle Trip
I'm confused. (as usual, I know you are saying!)
But I posted and now can't find it. Oh well, I'll repeat and hope it doesn't show up twice.
Was wondering if because you were on a smaller boat, that is why they couldn't get out to Molokini? We were on the bigger boat next to yours in the picture. And really, I'd call and complain that you did not get the trip that you paid for. The turtle dive was not far off shore and they were plentiful.
Bet seeing the whales must have been a thrill! They maybe are returning to warm water for the winter?
Anxious to hear what you think about the island of HA
Maybe you can do some snorkling there.
