So here goes some updating of my life in the city of Melbs...
First entry is all about food!!!!
Since i've been here i've eaten some of the best and some of the dogiest food in my whole life, as i mentioned in my entry fom 30th june, that me and dave were in for treat our 1st night in Melb, well we sure were as Sian took us to her brother's fantastic restuarant called DALEY AT CHIMMEYS in south melbourne, wow! And i really mean wow, cos i was about to eat the best meal i'd ever eaten in my whole long life and i do eat alot so this was a amazing feat.... we went into this cute, nicely lit and simple looking restuarant, a very relaxed feeling and great atmosphere, we met Daz (sian's bro) and his lady Belle, both ace, daz even took us into his kitchen and let us try some things which made my day and then we ordered food of the likes as bruscetta, feta and plums on a green salad, onion, anchovie and olive tart, Steak with polenta, parmesan and wine and when it came it just looked like the meals all those great chefs make on the TV, like Jamie Oliver to pull a name out of the 'chefs' hat! It looked amazing and taseted better than that, i was soooo impressed, so after an amzing first two courses we had dessert and it was just mouth wateringly superb, homemade ice cream, like lemon and ricotta and chocolate praline parfait, dave asked sian what a parfait was, and she replied 'you know like pate, it's all like mashed up' well, he he what's she like.... yes but it was better than that it was a mouth melt chocolate treat! It was truly fab food and the best i've ever eaten, we have been there a few time since, he does an amzing brekkie on sat and sun mornings and it's all at a cheap price for the amazing quality of the food! I would erge anyone who arrives in Melbs to get themselves straight down, but sadly Daley at Chimmeys closed down on Friday (which is very sad), due to reasons but i wanna say that when Daz gets his new restuarant up and running i'll let you know as it's bound to be WOW and you can all get yourself off there for some amazing meals, all the best fro the future Daz!
So... that was the best meal i ate, i've eaten some weird things too like buffalo sausages, but am not sure they were made from real buffalo, they were ok and now we're on the subject of sausages, i've also tried wild boar sausages and my comment on them is hhhhmmmm and i have also had crocadile bangers and mash..... and all i can say is YUK, it tastes like euw! yukky and i fet incredibly sick after two mouthfuls so personally i'd give the crocs a miss!
So on the subject of aussie animals, i have also had some rather tasty kangaroo, Trevor who i work at the fish market with is also a hunter and brought in some kangaroo that he'd caught and we fried it in garlic and red wine and it tasted superd, to be honest it's not dis-similar to beef, so thanks trev for thet tasty treat!
If your in Melbs also try supper inn, a restuarant in chinatown and it's beauty, the portions are massive and the food is great, try chilli and pepper prawns... delicious, definately the best chinese i ever went too. I've been eating a lot of eastern cuisine since i've been here, they're big on it, i eat sushi quite a lot but i avoid the fish and usually have terriaki chicken or duck...nice and the other week Beth (diarmuid - that i live withs girlf) and her mate jess took me to a vietamenese restuarant, which was cool, you get a bowl of basic noodle soup and a few plates of fresh vegs and spices and sauces and chuck as much is you want and your own delicious soup.... what a beauty idea, we could do with something like this back home and it costs all of £2.50, thanks girls for taking me!
Since i've been here me and dave have gained a favourite pizza takeaway, it got way too tempting to get pizza of this calibre delivered straight to the door and at one point i think me and dave were even ordering them 2 maybe 3 times a week, well that would explain the weight gain so dave took the menu with him when he left so i could lay off the cheesy treats!
I've also found a sarnie shopon smith thanks to paul that does massive rolls for a quid or so and of course if you're in Melb get yourself down to boost juice and have an all berry bang... these are a great hangover cure also! So, as you can see i've eaten well, i even tried crayfish...... i'm ot sure about that one though, it didn't taste of much, not sure ellie and the geordie ricky were too impressed by it either, but it was good to try and my boss gave me it for free so it didn't set me back the usual 60 bucks, i have no idea why these things are so expensive!
And i'll finish off with Baz's curry house..... what a great sunday hangover treat....so if your in smith st go to khan's curry house and one last tip, if you're low on money get yourself down to bimbo's on brunswick st for cheap pizza, but posh pizza for less that £2! bargain.....
So as you see i've eaten a fair bit, it's been delicious and the waistline has suffered but come next week i'll be back on the backpackers diet and with no cheap eats about like in thailand and india i'll be on a tasty diet of toast and cereal! yummy! x x x
