Injuries
Entry 68 of 117 | show all | print this entry |
well i just realised i have to do an entry to bring the pod bak to melbs and then i can get going with the tale of cairns and a pin on't map!
As most of you know i'm rather prone to the old injury! Since being in Oz, touch wood these injuries have lessened but thy have still been there, there are two main ones that come to mind....
The first was when i was on my way to work one day on the tram, a daily everyday event since i've been here, kind of routine you'd say but, not today for today i got off the tram and whilst walking along by the tram track, well within the lines i felt a rather large and painfull BANG on my back and fell to my knees.... ow! It seems i was just hit by a tram and joinn the high statistiics that is tourists hit by a tram, i sat on the floor on my knes in bewilderment whilst onlookers helped me up, the tram driver didn't stop there, he also took out 2 other people and brought them to their knees too and he didn't even stop to check all were ok, luckily this did not require hospital treatment and i escaped body it tact with just a rather sore and achy back! Close call....
The second of my injuries did require a little hospital treatment, i'm affraid! I'm not sure how this injury came about but it would seem that over time myleft big toe nail had started to come loose to the point that it was just kinda hanging off..... i kept catching it and ow, that hurt! So, i decided eventually when i realised sticking it down with a plaster wasn't the greatst idea to get it looked at, the doctore sent me to a surgeon and then the day came and i was like a kid that was about to have a filling, it looks like the name came dislodged cos of pressure, probably by a shoe... so the fella decided to remove it, i made dave stay much to his discuss and i was pretty scared, i've been in hospital a lot but ralely endure any pain or treatment, just strange looks - like the time i closed a car bonet on my head and got concussion, so the dr guy got out a rather large needle and proded it rather far into my foot, several times! ow! OW! He then took these massive pliers and grabbed the end of toe nail, much to my horror as my toe wasn't numb! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - isaid, calmly of course, my foot isn't numb he then said that i have enough anaesthetic in my foot to numb a cow... but i explained i could feel so he tied a elastic band round my toe and injected again, this time it was numb and with two tugs he pulled my nail off me foot and all i felt was a tug! So, for $120 you can get a nail removed, teres smething to bear in mind next time your here! My dad had asked me to save him the toe, so not wanting to disappoint i asked the doc, he put it in a tub and dad, that'll teach you as your daughters toe nail will be winging it's way to you the post very soon, i hope it gets through customs! So, all that hapened in march and there is still no single sign of a toe nail!
All that aside i have stayed pretty much accident free since i've been in oz, don't think i've even fallen or had a cut.... but i still have 24hours left here and musn't speak too soon! x x x
ooooh, actually there is one small injury i forgot, now it's gotten pretty cold here so i got meself from ugg boots for all of £5, bargain, but there is a reason they are that cheap for they have no grip on the sole, not a sausage of grip! as i found out when i was walking through town with dave one day and it happened to be nice a full of people and as i'm walking along i do a little slip to the left and just as i think i've recovered and dave hasn't noticed i take a massive kind of leap in the air and land flat on my back by a zebra crossing much to the amusement of all around me and dave, who was pretty much in hysterics... i quickly stood up.... so, don't think anyone noticed...... but i escaped with a small graze and just dented pride and a little lesson learnt, there is a reason cheap shoes are cheap! x x x

And I thought I was accident prone. Oddly enough, I'm an Aussie, and I've never been hurt downunder. All of my shamefaced incidents have occurred while o/s. So it's not just my country that's out to get you...
