I'm sorry about not posting pictures. The place I usually do it at (the fat camel) decided not to let people do it here anymore :( I promise to post pics as soon as i find a place.
The day I arrived back in auckland was not fun. There were complications with my pin number, my new cell phone didn't want to work, and i was really sick. After I finally got things straightened out, I slept for the rest of the afternoon. I woke up feeling somewhat better and extremely excited because Ines was here :) we went out for coffee and had a lot of catching up to do. She had toured the south island with her friend isa, and had been sleeping in a car for 2 weeks!
Yesterday, we managed to find a place that charges $10 per night (it usually costs around 21 at other hostels)! Hotel DeBrett...haha...it's kinda shady, but for $10 a night it's not that bad. We have our own bathroom and only have to share a room with two other girls (the usual dorm rooms have 8 ppl and community bathrooms). After booking the room for 3 nights, we needed to find a sweatshirt for ines. It's still pretty nice here during the day, but at night it can get really cold. While we were walking down the street we randomly bumped into Anna, a girl from Ines' graduating class!!! The world really is small...i still can't believe it. So the three of us explored auckland together for the rest of the afternoon. Later that night, Ines and I went to the famous Minus 5 bar here. It was so cool...literally. It's a bar that's completely made out of ice and is -5 degrees inside. They put you in a big parka and gloves and give you a cocktail (i had the frisky penguin) in a glass made out of ice! It was so much fun and i'll make sure to post the pictures we took. The walls were made out of big ice blocks, and then there were all sorts of ice sculptures. Ines and I both thought it was funny that it's actually colder than -5 at home right now.
Today I'm finally feeling a lot better :) and Ines and I are going to figure out our travel plans...we don't know for sure yet, but we're hoping to see most of the north island. I'll keep posting updates! miss you all!!!
