OK...I have exactly 30 minutes left on my internet card to tell all of you about my long...long day of travel. My flight to LA was really nice...gorgeous actually. I had a window seat and we flew over the rockies and beautiful red canyons in AZ. California was pretty too. I didn't realize that they had mountains there. So I arrived in LA, and had no idea where to go next. When I flew to Germany this summer, the airport in Atlanta had a bunch of signs telling me exactly where to go. After a brief moment of panic, I simply asked someone where to go and I found my terminal just fine. It took forever to get to my gate tho...and even longer to wait for my flight to board. It was a really packed flight, but the seats were really comfy (unfortunately i got stuck with a middle seat tho) and they gave us tons of free stuff...sleeping mask...key chain...socks...and a little bag...ok...maybe not that exciting, but i thought it was nice. Everyone had their own little tv, and could choose from a bunch of really good movies throughout the entire flight. It went a lot faster than I expected, and I even got some decent hours of sleep. Aside from the gross couple in the seat ahead of me who couldn't keep their hands off each other, it was a nice flight. Everything went smoothly in Auckland and I was on my way to the hostel by about 7:30. Unfortunately we were stuck in traffic and didn't arrive until about 2 hours later. It wasn't that bad tho, two girls from Duluth were riding with me, and I got to see my first sights of Auckland.
To be honest, the first part of my day didn't go very well. I was freaking out a bit actually. The first thing I see when i walked into my dorm was a porno magazine just laying on one of the beds! gross! I thought i had ended up in a room with a bunch of perverts (it turned out that it was just a joke...all my roommates are very nice and aren't perverts). And then when I woke up from my nap, my nice sunny day was gone and it was cold and raining :( I walked around the town for awhile anyways, exchanged my money and did some shopping(everything is so expensive here!) Luckily I found the Warehouse...a store that sells just about everything for nice cheap prices. I bought a cheap watch(the one i brought stopped working on my flight to LA!) and a little hairdryer (don't judge...my hair doesn't work w/out one...and i want to look at least a little cute when i go job hunting)
When I got back to the room, my roommates from scotland were there, chris and suzan aka suze. They explained the whole magazine thing...a little prank they were playing on Rita from NZ. They were very nice and made me feel a whole lot better about everything. Later I met simon...from england. And later loud/funny Rita from Wellington NZ. It's a fun bunch. We all had dinner together and then went out for a couple drinks. Very fun times...i feel like i've been traveling with them for weeks rather than just half a day. Its kinda sad tho...they all leave tomorrow already. we're all going to hang out tonight tho...should be fun. It's strange how we all speak the same language, but can barely understand each other at moments. For example, Rita commented on how she really liked my Zambers(aka flip-flops)...or something like that...and i just looked at her blankly...Also, the way that i say hospital...is apparently hilarious.
Well I'm running out of time. Don't really know what I'm going to do today yet. I was going to go on a free tour thing of the city, but i missed the bus...i really need to work on the being on time thing...no worries tho...theres another one tomorrow. miss all of you...Once i get some more internet time I'll try to send out some personal emails...keep leaving comments! they make my day :)

1/2 way across the globe already??
Good to hear that you made it okay, you're so brave! I'm so happy for you but also a little jealous (I have 3 pages of German to write before 12pm tomorrow!). But yeah, you are going to have a blast... I hope your first week goes well and that you get settled in smoothly.
Much love from Iowa,
Nicki
Hi Haley!
It is great to hear your travel blog. Sounds like you are finding your way around and figuring things out okay.
I talked to Grandma B and she had talked to your Dad and Mom and they were enjoying Arizona. I guess they were going to get together with Nitzy and Howie for dinner and maybe golf too. We are taking Hannah down to Chicago to look at the Institute of Art this weekend and we will stay in Madison to see Grandma B and as many of the Bowers as we can catch up to. I am going to head to bed soon but just wanted to let you know we're thinking of you. Thanks for the fun updates. Di-Di and John
Hey bud!
As weird as this sounds when I check my email and find that I have one saying you've made a new travelpod entry thing or whatever, I get excited!!! I'm sooo excited for you being on this huge adventure and I just know it's going to prove to be incredible. Glad to hear things went smoothly on the wave over there as well as the first night. Considering what you're doing I'd say you haven't freaked out too bad at all! Heck I probably woulda been worse. Hopefully the weather will start to get sunny and pretty and all. I really gotta run though I have a test I haven't started studying for tomorrrow....I know I know, but it's microbiology so I'm thinkin it'll be kinda review/kinda easy. We'll see though. You're in my thoughts and prayers always, and I love you lots kid! -Beets
nice
Hey Hay,
It's good to hear about how you're doing..I too get excited when I see you've posted something new. It's so sweet that we can be connected from different sides of the world! I hope all is going well for you, you're not missing too much here except tonight we had a big upset over Concordia --they are the top team in the conference and we beat them at home, our last home game! I know that'd make you happy since you have Auggie Pride! Give me your address sometime too ok!!
Love, Katie
So far so good!
Haley-
So far so good! Your first day there and you're already meeting and connecting with cool people! I can't wait to hear to hear more. I think that there is just something about the midwest accent that makes people laugh.... apparantly on a global level, before reading that I thought that maybe it was just people out here on the west coast who found it funny. I get teased for the way that I say 'bagel' and 'vague'... I'll try out hospital and report back : ) Keep posting, I will look forward to reading them and I'll be cheering you on!
Jenny
So fun to hear what you're doing!
Hi Haley,
This is so cool! It is really fun to read about what you're doing. I'm so glad you're having fun and figuring out what you need to do.
Beth
Good to hear from you.
I'm going to really enjoy hearing about all your adventures. What a great idea to start a blog. Cheryl
