After a draining flight from Reno via JFK to Amman Jordan, we arrived at the Dove Hotel, Jabal Amman. We found a travel Company on the Internet; Desert Paramour Tours, Petra. They were great, provided us an itinarary and we stayed at the hotel for 3 days before they even requested payment! Lots of flexibility, and we changed plans on a daily basis without any problems. They provided drivers in Jordan, Egypt and Israel. We planned to spend the first day resting and getting over jet lag, but the fact was that we felt pretty good, and did not want to waste a day. Still, I heartily recommend building in a day of rest, every 3-4 days of travel. The hassels of a foreign country never cease to pop up, and the soul really does need a break from time to time.
Our driver was going to take us to the refugee camp a Jebel al Hussein, but as we drove by, decided something more scenic was in order. We elected to go to Jerash, which is nice for an hour or two, but definitely does not merit more time. So off we were to Umm Qais, note that I have misspelled this name many times in this travel blog. It is just on the border north of Irbid.
