Here I am on the other coast...I'm in Byron Bay and the weather has been a bit cloudy. They say the water and sky on the west coast is twice as blue and so far I believe it!

After a fabulous week in Perth, I had to leave my friends. The flight was about 5 hours...overnight...they fed us a meal at 12:30 at night. I couldn't believe it! I was just like- come on let me sleep! So I arrived at about 6 AM and the bus was at 9:30. I literally slept in a chair next to the baggage claim for 3 hours. I came down here yesterday and met some nice travellers on the bus. I ended up heading to a mammoth hostel- the Arts Factory. It is like a mini village. It is in the middle of rainforest, and there is a becah volleyball court in the middle, a swimming pool, a huge kitchen and then just lots of huts/rooms/teepees...I'm staying in a Yurt type thing. It isn't too bad. Not much sleep possible but I just have to be alright with that!

Today I met up with a girl who I had met on the bus from Canada and we went for a surf. The winds were high and the conditions pretty messy...I managed to catch a wave and a bit of whitewash-- so wasn't really successful- but I had a lot of fun just being out there and paddling like hell- the rip was too strong though. It was a lot of fun.

Besides that I've just been walking around the beaches and the town. Tomorrow morning I'm going to head out to the lighthouse- it's supposed to be a beautiful walk- then its off on the bus to meet up with some friends on the Gold Coast!
