This morning it was Ben's turn to make a flash breakfast and he did not disappoint by making flaxmeal waffles. There was also meant to be some bacon, but due to the attention seeking antics of the children, the bacon was burned and evacuated to the back porch to finish its smoke production. Nevertheless, the waffles were more than sufficient to keep us fed and ready to head out and enjoy the day. The plan for the day (as mentioned above) was 'divide and conquer' so Ben and Tim took all the kids to the pool for a three hour swim in the community pool. This was a very well-used facility and Ben and the 4 kids joined the other several hundred people cavorting in the lazy river and low depth kids' pool. Parents and kids were elbow to elbow and all seemed to have a wonderful time. The highlight for Tim was when Eli and Lily decided they would like to jump off the 5 meter platform when the diving pool was opened. They got to the edge of this high platform and before you knew it, they were airborne and sailing down to the water below. It was very neat to see their confidence in the air and water and the lack of fear. Eli, for one, is the child that has grown markedly in confidence since we began this epic journey.
While this adventure was taking place, Jess and Fiona were off getting their fingernails, toenails, hands and feet, polished, scrubbed, rubbed, sanded and painted. After the pool, Ben and Tim and the kids headed back to the house by way of the local bakery, Solly's. At this store we got bagels and the famous cinnamon rolls. These are so tasty that they form the second stop we will make on our way out of Vancouver on Tuesday. Aside from all the resting and playing we have done here, we will also head out (on Tuesday) loaded with groceries, fresh cinnamon rolls from Solly's and good sushi from FujiYa.
Back at the house it was tag and switch as after our lunch of fresh bagels, the Mums took the kids out to the movies to see 'Brave' while the Dads stayed back, made spaghetti sauce and tidied up the house as the babysitter was coming just before 7 so that the 4 parents could go out for a lovely dinner. We whiled away the later afternoon by hanging out and playing with the kids and soon Fiona went to pick up the babysitter and the grown-ups headed out to 'Grub' a local restaurant. We had a very quiet, calm and relaxing dinner over a pre-meal bowl of punch, a bottle of wine and good conversation. The food was consistently excellent and we all decided to go for the combination meal which included a starter, a main and a dessert. Before we knew it, the meal was over and we were back at the house where the kids were sound asleep and the babysitter relaxing on the couch. She was taken home, we had a nightcap and all crawled into bed ready and excited for Sunday: Canada Day!!!!!!
