What I did
I'm not sure what there is to say about the park except that it appeared to live up to Eli's wildest expectations. There were life-size lego animals and people everywhere. Our first ride was a Safari Ride and all around our track were life size lego animals, giraffes; pandas, lions, wildebeest, etc... It was a bit strange seeing all of these animals in lego style just one day after seeing them in real life at the Zoo, but we quickly adjusted.
We spent the first part of the day working around the various rides and attractions on the Western half of the park, culminating with a whole family ride that involved using hand levers to propel a fire truck down a track (while racing against others) in order to reach a fire hydrant which used water cannons to put out a simulated fire (we got second)
Then it was time to head out and explore the Eastern half of the park. Eli was so driven that he didn't even hear us or respond to calls and entreaties of "Do you want some ice cream now mate?" He kept going, and going, and going....kind of like the energizer bunny. Except, when the energizer bunny runs out of battery he just stops, while Eli gets redder and redder in the face and the bags under the eyes got longer and more pronounced. Nothing was going to stop this boy from seeing and doing every single thing in the park. We made our way down to Miniland and we were all impressed by the detailed models of different cities and locations. Heck, we even got to walk down The Strip in Vegas again and get another picture of Eli with a pyramid. Some of the more impressive recreated sights were the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco, New Orleans and New York City. Eli just kept walking in a daze and saying things like: "wow, that's so cool, Dad check this out, Mum did you see...." Meanwhile, his camera never left his wrist and he constantly snapped pictures
We finished off our day with the ride that Eli had been wanting to do ever since he first heard about Legoland - Pharoah's Quest. In this ride the whole family rode in a car and were armed with laser guns to shoot all of the snakes, spiders and baddies who were out to get us. It may surprise you, heck it even surprised me, but Jess had the high score in our car!!! Well done, Mum! Of course, the car behind us also had a Mum win, so I'm a bit suspicious of the whole thing.......
Then it was time to do some shopping in the Big Lego Store (along with everyone else who had saved this bit for the last minute). After dodging crowds and many debates over items, we checked out and were walking through the gates at 5:57 (the gates close at 6pm). We drove back to the hotel with red and exhausted faces, had tea and the kids were asleep within 5 minutes of going to bed. It was a bit of a surreal drive home as I was sure that every other car and driver looked just slightly 'blocky', but decided not to say anything lest the others worry about my driving abillity.
Tomorrow is a rest day in San Diego before we head back out into camping and National Park land.
