Aaahhh, I have finally found the Fiji I was looking for. Here there are endless white sandy beaches. The color of the water here has so many stunning shades of blue that I find it hard to believe that it is real!! From this island I was able to visit the island where the movie Castaway was filmed. Strangely I felt somewhat obligated to go there. The island was absolutely gorgeous, not a bad place to be stranded for a while! Shoes here are optional so I forgot to bring my flip-flops along. Of course once I was there I wanted to climb to the top! I wonder how many Fedex employees can say they have climbed to the top of that island...barefoot...in a bikini?!
I also got to do a beautiful dive from here. Lots of sharks and coral a brilliant shade of purple like none I have ever seen before. This island is not that big, I was able to walk around the whole thing in about 2 hours. In the evening the hostel put on some traditional dancing for us.
One night we also had some hermit crab races. The basic idea is to bet on a crab and once all the crabs have been spoken for they the race begins. They are put in a small circle and the first crab out of the outer circle wins the race. Whoever bet on that crab wins some sort of prize-beer, massage, etc.
