Flag of Antarctica  , South Shetland Islands,
Tuesday, January 25, 2011

We sailed through the narrow passage to get into Deception Island.  First we walked around a crater that erupted only 30 years ago, Telefon Bay.  No penguins here, but there were a few animals around.  Apparently if there are no animals it is a sign the volcano is about to blow again so time to get out!  After that we headed to Pendulum Cove where we went swimming in the Antartic waters.  Geothermic activity keeps about the first inch of water warm, after that it is C-C-C-COLD!
