We found a cabana close in town. It was a nice change to have a kitchen and an entire place for us and the dogs.
Castro is a sefood/fishing harbor town. They have these great colorful houses built on stilts out over the water. Two of the major catches here are salmon and eel, as well as an abundance of clams and mussels. Vic had fresh salmon cerviche as well as trying a local dish called Palmay. It is a bowl of mussles with potatoes and sausages on top. He said it was wonderful dish and that the sausage had given the steamed mussels great flavor. Our friend Larry would love both these dishes as well as all the wonderful wines which average $5 a bottle!
We also spent a day hiking in the Chiloe National Park. It is on the western coast next to the small beach town of Cucao.
Next...the town of Puerto Montt
