A place to call home?
Entry 51 of 51 | show all | print this entry |
Well the around the world journey has been put on a temporary hold and a new adventure has begun for me in Egypt. I have been hired on as a tour leader with a young, UK based travel company called Oasis. I began training for the job in late July. After making it all the way to Turkey (from South Africa, might I remind you!), I began running out of money to travel and had to reevaluate my plan. I was sent on a two week sample tour around the country to see if I might be suitable for the job and I loved it.
I was given a month off, Mid-Aug to Mid-Sept and met up with the fam in Germany, then on to Belarus (Russia) for my sisters wedding. The wedding was beautiful and being with my sister and Grandparents again reminded me of just how much I have back at home waiting for me.....
They know I love them, but they also know, I'm still not ready to settle in just yet.
So for nearly 2 months now, I've been inconsistently living and working in Egypt! And I have to say, there's something about this country, that without knowing it, really begins to grow on you. Its dirty and chaotic and at times you cant help but pulling out your hair at things but its real life, more then I've ever know it. There's a lot to be learned here and I'm taking full advantage for it. Learning Arabic, coming to understand Islam and its Muslim people. Given I'll never be able to unravel Middle Eastern conflict but I can at least, learn more about it here then at home, and maybe someday see why thing are the nasty way they are sometimes in this world and what each of us can do to make it better. So I've decided to stay for the next few months here in Egypt and keep going with this whole tour leader thing. I have to admit I'm quite good at it and it gives me a chance to start refueling the travel funds for my next stop.....India!
For now I'll be updating this site, filling in missing stories and updating lots and lots of pictures from my sisters wedding! I'm sorry I've fallen so far behind, but I promise to make up for it.... If your interested in the new job I'll be working, you can look it up a full picture itinerary on the web at:. www.oasisoverland.co.uk my trip: Egypt Encompassed.
Miss you all, Love Jessie Smith (or GiGi as the Egyptians prefer to call me!) New contact info: Cell Phone in Egypt: 0122436316 Address in Egypt: Bostan Hotel Attn: Keren/Jessica Oasis Overland 94, Mohamed Farid St. Down - Town Cairo Egypt
P.S. I cut all my hair short again. It feels good to be free!
