Intro:
Cape Point is know to most tours to be the: "Southern Most point in Africa". But It's not! Cape Agulhas is! After Discovering this information, I decided, I'd prefer to go there. But I got Lucky. 3 American's I had met at Long Street Backpackers (the hostel that became my home for the 2 weeks or so I was in Cape Town) had a car and invited me to drive down to Cape Point with them. Even though it hadn't been the southern most point of Africa I came along anyways, and I'm really glad I had. The 4 of us had an amazing time together. The team consisted of Bridget from Kentucky, myself and Will and Adam from Kent Ohio. Like a puzzle we all pretty much fit really well together. And it was nice spending a few days with these Ohio boys because the way they made me laugh remained me of my Californian buddies, Nick and Taylor. I miss them both a lot, so it was nice, in a few way to feel back at home again.
The Road Trip Itself: We started our journey along the west coast, riding high above the shore on the skinny cliff hugging roads of Chapman's Peak Drive. We stopped at Kommetijie and learned about the tallest lighthouse of South Africa. We ate an over priced, disgusting lunch at Scarborough, the last town before entering Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. The park seemed untouched, what Cape Town would have been 200 hundred years ago. And Cape Point itself, with it's lighthouses was really just breath taking. It was clearest most beautiful day. The bluest sky's and the sun just beating down on your face. I would have been content with just stopping time and keeping that moment forever. But we drove up to Simonds Bay to spend the night and play with the penguins that next morning. The clouds rolled in that afternoon but we still though it best to hit the beach before heading back to the city. But the weather didn't let up and our bikinis stayed hidden under our sweaters. We found a coffee shop to sip coffee in and from a window watched the surfers ride into shore.
