I love Italy!

First of all the food is to die for! Who wouldn't want to eat pizza, pasta, and gelato all day? The Italians are masters of the tomato. They are also very friendly and helpful. And the language is beautiful.

Gwen and I arrived in Naples and found a very cute little hostel in the heart of the city. Walking there was an adventure because the driving is crazy. It's true what they say that in Naples the traffic lights are nothing but decorations, but after two days of walking around the town and exploring the sights, Gwen and I were confidently crossing the streets like the locals. We did a little bit of shopping from street vendors. The fake Gucci purses were tempting but neither of us bought one... yet.

From Naples we went to the nearby town of Sorrento. I was very excited for this because there I got to see my sister! Michelle, is on a school trip in Italy so we met up with the group. It was so weird to be surrounded by Whitehorseans again, but once we recovered from the shock we had a great time catching up with all our friends. They let us join them for dinner and Michelle, Gwen, her friend Luke and I all hung out in the evening.

The next day we got to tag along with the group. We hopped on their coach bus and went with them to Pompei. Pompei was amazing! It's this town that was buried by volcanic ash in the year 79 AD and preserved until they dug it up a few hundred years ago. It was actually quite eery walking through the streets of such an old city.

At the end of the day we said goodbye to Michelle and the rest of our friends on the trip. Then we headed for Rome. We have been in Rome only one day and so far it has been awesome! Last night we met up with our friends Megan and Alex who are also backpacking and went out on the town with them.

Then today we headed for Vatican City Gwen in Pompei!

. It's the world's smallest country and contains the worlds longest church. St. Peter's Basilica is amazingly grand and the detail of the artwork decorating the Sistine Chapel is incredibly beautiful.

We are having a great time back in the world of hosteling. I have to admit that I actually missed hostels. I missed going to new cities and countries all the time, learning new languages and even sleeping in a new hostel bed every few nights. (It's clear I'm addicted to travel.)

We love Italy. We love Rome. And we love all of you, which means we miss you all dearly. I hope that all is well in all your worlds.

Lots of love,
Jen (and Gwen)
