After waking at Juno Hall Backpackers, we had breakfast and Alex fed the pig. The scenery as we drove toward Tongariro National Park was beautiful--the most unique we'd seen. Stepped green hills and lots of sheep.
By the time we reached Mt. Ruapehu, a huge storm had rolled in. We could only see a few feet in front of us through the clouds and rain, but we valiently tried to find a LOTR filming spot. To get to Linda Allen (a sewing acquaintance of Mom's)'s house, we drove through the Manawatu Gorge, a beautiful and treacherous route. Linda's home, Cairnwood, is beautiful. We enjoyed seeing the alpacas, drying our tents in the barn, and the meat eaters had lamb for dinner. We all got to try kumara, a NZ sweet potato.
