The first priority for the day was to try out the pasterleria 5 metres from our front door. The Gomba café is full of locals and has fantastic pastries and cakes. More importantly, as we were to discover, it also has excellent coffee. The girls enjoyed some delicious chocolate cake while Jess and I were good and stuck to a croissant.
It was a lovely day, so we decided to buy some supplies and head for the beach. We checked out the produce market which was really small. We bought some pastries, some drinks and a few nibbles and headed for Batata, the beach that is right beside the town here in Lagos. We got there just before lunch time and managed to stay there all day, eating the lunch supplies we had bought, which included some delicious fresh cherries.
The girls made a mermaid on the beach and Jess and I read our books, breathed the warm salty air and soaked up the sun. It was such a pleasant change after all of the cold weather we had experienced.
We stayed at the beach until the sun went down and the air grew cool. We strolled home and decided to continue our walk, dropping the beach things at home before we went on. We had an early dinner - pasta, soup etc at a restaurant in the main square called Mamma Mia. It was quite good although a little heavy which slowed down our walk somewhat.
After our early dinner we walked to the marina to check it out, then to the train station to ask about trains to Porto. We walked home the extra long way around the other side of the marina then back along the riverfront which left us exhausted when we finally made it home.
