We left Cairns on Tuesday morning feeling pretty rough after Mad Monday, a crazy night out organized by our hostel, 75 people went out all in hostel t shirts, we got free entry and drinks in loads of bars, really good fun. The 87 Ford Falcon was fully loaded with 3 massive bags, 3 guitars, loads of value food and goon. The drive took us through fields and fields of sugar cane until we reached the Daintree River Crossing and entered the National Park area. Jut before we took the ferry across the river, we took a side road down to this natural water pools we had heard you could swim in. We arrived and there were loads of cars parked up the road, despite it not being very sunny, and we had a quick dip but there were too many people, nice place though. The tropical rainforests leading right the way down to the white sandy bays makes an awesome sight and there were some awesome viewpoints along the road, the problem was it was cloudy and raining on and off. We stopped at Cow Bay which is beautiful and explored the beach a bit, waded up a creek a little way and saw a bug ray swim off in front of us and loads of cool little mud hopper creatures, not really sure what they were. However this was the best weather we had during the 2 days we spent up in Cape Trib. It absolutely tipped it down. We found a relatively hidden spot by the road side and set up the car for the night, made a kind of pathetic rain shelter to cook under and drank some cheap and nasty wine. It was warm at least and it was pretty amusing, however at about 11 oclock some guy came along and told us we had to move, so we drove off to find a new spot, about 5 mins down the road, it looked ok at the time, but when we woke up we were in a muddy slushy pit. The pots and pans we had left outside, were full to the brim with water it had been raining so hard. The car was stuck and Calum and I got out to give it a shove, Calum made the mistake of pushing behind the wheel, and got splattered in sooo much mud, that was hilarious. We decided there wasn't much point in sticking around in Cape Trib, we had seen the beautiful beach and tried to spot one of the infamous Casawaries but there was not much to do in this weather, we realised this was a good move as half of the creek crossings were partly flooded on the way back down and we were told the rain would get worse and the roads would prbably close later on. So we headed back south.
