We travelled 24 hours on a bus driving through strange flat Patagonian wilderness and eventually arrived in the mountains. Bariloche is an amazing town set on the edge of the lake Nahuel Huapi, which is huge and surrounded by snow capped mountains. The town looks like a Swiss ski resort with wooden cabins and buildings everywhere, it makes a nice change from the big city scene. We are kind of between peak seasons, the ski season doesn`t start for another few weeks and the watersports stuff like white water rafting only runs through the summer. There are some trails you can take into the mountains which we plan to do at some point.
We did a trail to a Mirador (viewpoint) on top of one of the mountains surrounding Bariloche and has incredible views of the surrounding lakes and snowy mountains, it is one of the most beautiful landscapes I have been in.
We spent one fun evening busking in the town square with a german guy who did fire juggling. We played a performance for the police women who came to see what we were up to, but didnt make much money. However we befriended the bbq man in the square who gave us free steak sandwiches, good stuff.
