We caught the bus from Antigua on Wednesday morning and arrived in San Salvador that night, we were feeling a bit rough as we met up with our friends in Antigua again on Tuesday night and what was going to be one beer turned into quite a few and an illegal after party (all the bars in Antigua have to shut at 12 but some bars and cafes have these 'illegal' parties, sounds a bit dodgy but it was basically the same as the bar we had been in, just the beer was horrible). So when we got off the bus Calum was violently sick and went to bed, we had to be up at 4 to catch the next bus to Managua so we hung out with these 2 Aussie blokes who were doing the same journey. The next bus journey was worse, 4am till 6pm with breaks at numerous borders where officials with guns would decide to charge the gringos any random some of money depending on their mood it seemed, usually the excuse was some administration fee. This aussie called Matt said he had been charged three different amounts crossing the same border over the space of a month. So we arrived in Managua eventually. Nicaragua is really different to what we had seen in Mexico and Guatemala, firstly it is so much flatter, it was strange to be on straight roads and also it seemed much poorer, we drove through large areas where people lived under cardboard and binbags and the odd hammock with a shelter over it. All we really saw of Managua was a crazy taxi driver who shouted at us when we arrived that he was taking us to the bus station, we haggled a good price with Matt and Al and he took us there.
