We have been here only a day but have been really taken with Antigua. Its an amazing city, very European feeling, its a grid of cobbled streets with an amazing square in the middle with gardens in it and a huge church at the end. Turns out we arrived on one of the busiest days ever in Antigua, there was some sort of procession going on as a build up to holy week and hundreds of men in purple gowns process the street carrying some sort of huge picture on their backs, whcih they were making in the main square during the day, its kind of a huge piece of art made using stencils which they fill with beads and spices and stuff, bit wierd. Anyway we booked onto a tour yesterday to visit volcan Pacaya which is one of the three volcanos looking over Antigua, it was an awesome trip. We arrived at the top about 5 and walked around on the lava flow, the cooled areas but you could still see the red hot lava flowing through cracks in the rock, we were led by a guide who was about 70 but was fitter than any of us. It was incredibly hot and we were literally metres from the actual lava flow. We stayed there to watch the sunset which was one of the most amazing sights ever. Now we are off to the Lake for tonight and tomorrow, xxxx
