g We arrived in Palenque at about 7.30 at night, after watching the film Elsa and Fred on the bus for the fourth time since being in Mexico, its dubbed in spanish but we still managed to work our after the first or second viewing that it is definately a rubbish film. We had planned to stay a couple of nights in San C so thought if we moved on we wouñld have a bit of time to spare in Palenque which is right in the jungle and has some amazing ruins we have heard about. The best accomodation in Palenque is on the way to the ruins, which are in a national park. These are campsites basically with little cabanas and hammocks for rental. We were all up for the real jungle experience so after a scrary taxi ride during which the driver kept flashing his headlights on and off as some sort of joke which he found hilarious, we reached Mayabell campsite and got hammocks for 75p for the night. This place was really wierd and full of hippies and the staff were very un freindly. Hammocks arent as comfy as they look and we woke up at 3 in themorning freezing our balls off.
Yesterfday in the day we went to the ruins and some incredible waterfalls and did some serious jungle exploring.
We have some amazing photos but i cant load them up here. We saw howler monkeys in the jungle from about 10 metres away which was one of the most amazing things i have ever done, the noise they make is incredible. The waterfalls and jungle streams were wicked to swim in and the day in general was on of the best so far. I hitched my first ride aswell to get back to the ticket office ot get our tickets (which we hadnt been told we needed) so im well pleased. Last night we moved up the road to another jungle site which is sooo much better and we have a 4 bed cabana which we styed in last night and it was awesome, and a similae price. Last night there were mexican dancers and people with poys, (fire juggling things) dancing round our table in the jungle cafe thing. Today we are going to see some more waterfalls in another part of the national park and then tonight we are going to catch a bus back to San C and then onto Antigua (guatemala), so a bit of a mission.
Lots of love to everyone, this is a bit of a rush but the jungle is amazing and theres lots more tosay so i will at some point.
