When you get to the top you can follow a trail that takes you to a place called Inspiration Point where there is a memorial to Helen Hunt Jackson. Helen Hunt Jackson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts and came west after the death of her husband and sons. She was a author in the late 1800's who wrote a book about the mistreatment of the Indians. I had never The trail was a mile long and about half way up I had to stop and listen to the sounds of God's music, Nature. Since it was still early and I was the only one on the trail, it gave me time to reflect on all that I have been through in life
I then took some back roads and went back to Canon where the Royal Gorge is located. The scenery was beautiful.
Royal Gorge is considered a world wonder often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the Arkansas River. Yet it's unlike any other canyon. The width at the canyon bottom is no more than 40 to 50 feet, while the top measures only a few hundred feet.
It also has a suspension bridge that hangs 1,053 feet above Arkansas River. The Royal Gorge Bridge is the world's highest suspension bridge. I got to walk on the bridge and the wind was blowing hard up there, so hard that you could feel the bridge swaying.
I took a ride down to the bottom of the gorge on the Incline Railway which you stand in as it travels at a 45-degree angle down to the bottom. While down there we got to see some rafters coming down the river. That looked like fun. Next time I guess.
I am now just over the Colorado Border in New Mexico and head to Roswell tomorrow to see my family, The Aliens.
