My host family consists of Vaishali (Rtn) and her husband, Kalpesh, 10 year-old daughter Vidhi, toddler Vivaan, and her in-laws, Nila and Dr. Shah. The kids get so much love. The Shah's have a stockbroking company and employ about 50 people. They have 3 servants that live in an adjacent house, as well as some others that come throughout the day. Their house has marble floors and 12 ft ceilings throughout the 3 levels (helps with heat). I love the utility/outside kitchen area, where Jaia, a servant, washes the dishes and laundry hangs.
My first night here, we went to a wedding celebration
Nila wakes up early every morning and at 4:30 feeds their temple god food out of a separate refrigerator just for him. Everyday she puts fresh flowers on a string across the picture of Krishna - there is a picture of him in every room. The one in the kitchen is the one where he is just waking up, because, Hindu gods follow human's natural routine, too. She goes to the big temple every morning ans most evenings. Last night she took me - it was a 45 min drive one way because of traffic, but she "likes to get out." We made several stops, one to buy veggies from a streetside vendor, get pics of Vivaan, and a small grocery store.
Last night, we went out to eat at a traditional Gujurati restaruant called Kismat with Vaishali's Rotary Pres. and his wife, Arti. It was all great, spicy food. They gave me a tunic, which I'm wearing.Today we are having lunch at their house.
Vaishali and I plan to go shopping today at some point after my vocational visits. I can't believe I'm leaving here tomorrow already, and at the same time, it feels like I've been a part of this household for a long time.
