It was with some sadness we said goodbye to the lovely folk of Vegas when we met at Joes on Saturday morning........lots of kisses, cuddles and warm wishes to keep in touch before having a departure photo (including our new mascot, Ranger Beaver), and loading up the vee-hicles and heading on Interstate 15 west through the desert to Baker.

Meeting some new faces, from the Barstow Rotary Club in Andy and Dennis, we headed across the road from the "worlds tallest thermometer" to the Mad Greek restaurant for gyros and souvlakis. Full as googs, we said goodbye to our Vegas drivers, Joe and Wenlee, before heading further west through the dessert to Barstow.....

Route 66, the most famous highway in the States (?) passes through this city of around 22,000 peopole (a small "town" in US terms!!). We visited the Desert centre, where some of us handled snakes and even touched a South American iguana and a desert tortoise. Narelle, still stuffering from her stuffy nose, freaked out yet again with a tickle on the neck was we looked at a lovely specimen...a female tarantula. Very nice stuff.....so down my alley, had a great time!

Next to the Route 66 and Railroad museums, so much to take in, including a few souvenirs as momentos! Next to the local park, for the Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook off. Manny, a local Rotarian, shared some of the "best" chilli with us, then we sat in the park drinking (more) Bud Light!! Yummo - the chilli was like a mince with a lot of chili (of course). The Hispanic Community is huge, it was great to see everyone so relaxed and enjoying themselves in the local park on a lovely sunny day. A different change of pace from the fast lights of Vegas - we are in the country now!

Next to the Idle Spurs restaurant, where we enjoyed an array of American cuisine, and met with our friendly host families....to go home for an early night and more adventures in Barstow Sunday.

More to come soon!

Hello from Euroa
Hi everyone
What a fantastic job you are doing with the blogsite.I am really enjoying following your trip on the blogsite. Photos make everything more interesting and it's just great to see you all in the reports.
I know the trip is full on and you all must be getting pretty tired with all the meetings and greeting etc.
I have spoken to Peter and he is extremely pleased and proud of his team. You're all doing a great job.
Cheers for now
