Its been almost 2 weeks since the devastating earthquake in Sichuan. Being in Beijing, I hadnt felt the earthquake although many people/companies evacuated their office buildings. Since then, donations have poured in. However, I would much rather be there and help in any way I can. But Sichuan has seen a flood of volunteers and these need to be managed too, adding additional stress and strain on the relief workers there.
Myanmar is also copping with the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, but we hear little about it except for some first hand accounts of stranded travellers or workers or burmese.
Well, for me there comes a 4 months break now. First, I am heading to Xinjiang again to work as a volunteer manager for RacingThePlanet - its Gobi March 2008 time. After the race, I plan to travel to Central Asia to visit Kyrgistan and Uzbekistan. I was originally planning on travelling around Sichuan and Yunnan but I decided to wait until next year or later this year. I shall be back for in August to volunteer for the Olympic Games.
