After my wonderful holiday, I came back to Beijing to start a new term at our college. Not much has happened since, except that I have been exploring some art galleries, attend poetry readings at the Bookworm, watch Spanish movies at the Instituto Cervantes, watch Altman movies at D-22 in January, and scouting for Chinese language exchange partners.
One of the highlights since my return from the US was to see the China Disabled People's Performing Arts Troupe at the Beijing Exhibition Center. The ticket costs 380RMB and was worth it. The troupe performs Chinese dance, music and poetry which is presented by 45 physically or mentally impaired entertainers from throughout China.
The "My Dream" performance of the Chinese Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe, which has been praised at venues around the world for its exceptional artistry, will showcase the talents of artists who have overcome considerable difficulties and hardships to capture the hearts of thousands
The disabled troupe has performed in 40 countries and regions since its creation in 1987, including such world-class theaters as Carnegie Hall in the United States and La Scala Theatre in Italy.
Though enjoyed the performance, I couldn't help but feeling disappointed and annoyed by many people's disruptive behavior. My pet peeves were arriving late and searching for seats, ringing mobile phones, people talking on their mobiles during the performance and annoying kids running up and down the isle.

"Thousand hands" dance
. With 21 young deaf-mute performers, the dance featured the 1,000-hand Kwan-yin, goddess of mercy in Buddhism. It required all the dancers to perform in sync as one being in rhythm with the music. Without the ability to hear or speak, the received help through two women instructing them in signs language. It was breathtaking to say the least.
