Big city, bright lights - Jakarta

After a rather unsuccessful attempt in taking a 28 hour bus to Jakarta, I opted to fly as the price was the same as the bus ticket and i got picked up at my wonderful Merdeka home stay and dropped off at the beautifully new Padang airport. In less than 2 hours, I arrived in Jakarta where my servas host Tiur was waiting for me. Tiur lives an hour away from Jakarta in Cicupa Raya. I am staying with her and her sister and have met a few of her lovely neighbors who asked me many questions and shower me with food and massages. Life is good, especially since I was so adamant to not to go to Jakarta. Tiur became a wonderful friend and I know that we will be in contact for the rest of our lives. It is a different lifestyle here, both Tiur and her sister work at the same company and have a driver who takes them to places. I like this very much as we don´t have to wait in the heat for crowded buses. I was the honored guest at an English school where young kids had the opportunity to practice their English by asking me questions for 30 minutes. The lady managing the school was very thankful and provided us with a Pedang diner after the class. On Saturday, I went with Tiur to the Institutio Cervantes in Jakarta where she is taking up Spanish. Here too, I was the honored guest speaker where I could practice my English again and went out for lunch with the class. These are all adult learners who were curious to know about my travels and why I travel and how I can afford to travel. I enjoy my time with Tiur very much, it is very special to me as I really get to see inside the Indonesian culture.
My next stops will be the botanical garden in Bogor and then Yogyakarta, Solo, Bromo and then Bali.
